Unit of Study: Historical Fiction—Aurore of the Yukon. The document is based on Read Side By Side’s “Collect-Interpret-Apply” approach, and is designed to push the upper limits for students’ reading comprehension by exposing them to rich, complex literature and vocabulary within a structured program delivered over 33 days in the classroom.

"It is a great story that kids will love, and it has a complex story structure and interesting themes that make it a great tool to teach literacy and social studies."
Patricia Cunning, Executive Director of the MacBride Museum, noted that "Aurore of the Yukon has always delighted the kids at our Aurore camps, and is a great way to get young people involved in history. Aurore has been available to teachers in the school system for several years now, and Sarah's new teacher's guide will be a fantastic resource."
